All tattoos certainly have a special meaning for their owners and there are always certain reasons why the tattoo was chosen. Either because it has a symbolic meaning or just the owner likes the tattoo. Whatever it is, tattoos are personal and even though the pictures are the same but will have different meanings for everyone. Likewise, the semicolon tattoos that are currently rife on social media.
However, instead of having different meanings for everyone, semicolon tattoos are more universal in meaning thanks to a woman named Amy Bluel. After his father died of suicide, Amy struggled to overcome depression until one day she came to her senses and wanted to do something to commemorate her father as well as to raise awareness of mental health cases.
Both the Project Semicolon campaign and organization are dedicated to bringing hope and love to those who struggle with depression, suicide, addiction and self-harm. They encourage people to draw or make “semicolon” tattoos on the body as a reminder of their strength.
The semicolon is an important punctuation mark and is an appropriate symbol for those who are struggling. As Amy said, “A semicolon is used when a writer can choose to end a sentence, but they choose not to end it. The writer is you and the sentence is your life”.
