How do you know the graceful animals that are often called deer? Deer are animals that are very much found in almost all parts of the world except Australia and Antarctica. There are about 100 species of deer and 34 of them are recognized and known to the general public, all of which have similar characteristics. Deer are ruminant mammals that belong to the Cervidae family.
The most recognizable deer characteristic is deer antlers. Not the usual horn like a sheep’s horn. This deer antler grows from living tissue in the form of a solid bone that is generally owned by male deer which every year change horns. This is because deer antlers are the fastest-growing living tissue on earth.
Deer is also a herbivorous animal that eats grasses, seeds and their presence becomes the food of predatory animals such as tigers, lions, and others. In fact, it is not uncommon to be hunted by humans. Even so, deer are still abundant throughout the world so it is not included as a protected animal.
