For the American people, Abraham Lincoln was a great hero. His services are so great for the United States and almost everything is fundamental. But unfortunately, in the end Abraham Lincoln died in an unpleasant way. He was killed while watching a theater.
Abraham Lincoln only served about four years before he was killed. Nonetheless, his achievements can be said to be very flashy. A number of important decisions were made during his leadership period. Even because of this, the face of America which was previously very gloomy turned into a dignified and great nation. Then, what prestigious achievements did Lincoln have made for America?
1. Lincoln made America unite
Before becoming a strong country like now, America is a nation that is divided into parts. Bringing together many areas like this is certainly difficult, even though some of them are already members of colonies or unions. Even when Abraham Lincoln served as president, America was still in such a state of division.
America was divided into north and south, each of which then confronted and became a major tragedy called the famous Civil War. This war is also part of America’s darkest history. Lincoln’s service at that time was successful in uniting these two rival sides. Of course, through various kinds of businesses including raising the discourse of emancipation and also the abolition of slavery.
2. Emancipation of Americans
Racial problems are sensitive and America has been struggling with this for a long time. In the past, dark people had low strata in the community. Moreover, the rise of the slavery system made white people become increasingly fussy.
But in the end, equality was achieved after Lincoln occupied the highest leadership position in the US. The state is working hard to abolish total slavery, in addition to Lincoln also rolling out the rules about the equality of the rights of each person no matter what the color of their skin. In those days, even black people were very happy. Their existence is finally balanced. This was also realized by the inclusion of non-white people into military units that had previously seemed to be only for white people.
3. Abolition of Slavery
Emancipation prevails, but slavery is not necessarily lost. Seeing this, Lincoln even more aggressively voiced discourse about the abolition of slaves. Not at all easy, of course. It was only when the states came together that Lincoln was able to see the bright spot of what he was fighting for.
Until finally, thanks to Lincoln’s support, America completely abolished slavery. This has become a very significant progress for the country, and because of this their unity has finally strengthened and turned America into the most popular country in the world.
4. Enforce the Homestead Acts Rules
America was really chaotic at that time, let alone the economic strata of the people that were uneven. Many poor people cannot afford to pay for their lives, even though there are many people who are crowded with property. To overcome this imbalance, Lincoln made a rule that made all poor citizens happy. This rule is called Homestead Acts.
So, this rule is made so that poor people can afford to have a piece of land at a very, very cheap price, even if the terms and conditions are met. This rule finally had a great impact on American growth. Until finally they became a great nation that was respected by the world.
5. Lincoln Has His Own Patent
Apart from his great work for America, Lincoln turned out to also have his own personal achievements. One of them is through a patent written in his name. The invention patented by Lincoln is a device that is able to lift the ship when it will pass through a barrier. Barriers are usually installed in canals or rivers with specific purposes.
