An early version of Kermit appeared in 1955, in a five-minute puppet show for the TV WRC-Sam and Friends. Kermit’s prototype was created from a green women’s coat that Henson’s mother had thrown into the waste basket, and two ping-pong balls for the eyes. This early version of Kermit is a lizard-like creature. Kermit’s first appearance as a frog was on the special television show Hey Cinderella in 1969.
Kermit became famous in 1971, when he appeared on Sesame Street as the host of the news report that interviewed nursery rhyme characters. One of the most famous songs is Bein ‘Green. The Rainbow Connection’s Kermit song was also a hit from The Muppet Movie and has become a typical song of The Jim Henson Company.
